As a professional golfer, Vijay Singh has won three majors, and was ranked #1 for 8 months between 2004 and 2005. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006 and won the most PGA Tour in 2003, 2004, and 2008. During his career, Vijay Singh has earned $67 million on the course alone and millions more from endorsements. May 08, 2020 The field for the Korn Ferry Challenge at TPC Sawgrass in Florida has yet to be finalized, though an early list of participants surfaced on Twitter and three-time PGA major champion Vijay Singh is.

Veteran golf superstar Vijay Singh has pulled out of a tournament after being labelled a “piece of trash” and “complete turd” by a fellow pro.

The former Masters champ and three-time major winner faced backlash after entering the first tournament back on the second string Korn Ferry Tour in the US.

The tour is traditionally for golfers who have yet to qualify for the PGA Tour, and Singh — and his $AUD109 million in career earnings — did not go unnoticed by his fellow players.

Singh, 57, is eligible to play in any Korn Ferry Tour event he wants — but his decision to enter was blasted by one pro in particular, who delivered a blistering tirade on social media.

In a series of now deleted tweets, Brady Schnell, 35, who competes on the second-tier tour took aim at Singh, calling him “selfish”.

“Hey @VijaySinghGolf you are a true piece of trash if you accept money playing in a Korn Ferry Tour event and I’ll say it right to your face,” Schnell wrote.

“Do you know how much those points and money could do for a young kid?

“He’s a complete turd for playing. He’s got his money and he’s got his career. Just wait another month and roll with your senior friends.”

Schnell has missed five of six cuts on the Korn Ferry Tour this season.

The PGA Tour has now confirmed Singh had pulled out of the Korn Ferry Tour Challenge, which is set for June 11-14 at TPC Sawgrass in Florida.

Schnell has since apologised for slamming Singh — who was backed in his original decision to play by Phil Mickelson.

Yesterday I said some disrespectful things towards @VijaySinghGolf and for that I am truly sorry! A different approach should have been taken in order to get my point across. I will learn from this and be better! I'm looking forward to getting back to work and playing some golf.

The Fijian legend has made $AUD109 million on the PGA Tour — the fourth most of all time.

By comparison, last year’s Korn Ferry No. 1 Xinjun Zhang of China pocketed just under $1.29 million over the season.

Five-time major winner Mickelson — who has had a sometimes testy relationship with Singh — was quick to defend the Fijian when the controversy broke out.

“It’s no secret VJ and I aren’t close, but I’d like to say on his behalf that in addition to being a member of the Hall of Fame, he’s a big part of the PGA Tour’s success which financially subsidises, and always has, the KFT,” Mickelson tweeted.

“He has earned the right to play when and where he wants.”

Vijay Singh is taking his talents to … the Korn Ferry Tour?

When tournament golf returns, the 34-time PGA Tour champion and four-time PGA Tour Champions winner will tee it up at the Korn Ferry Challenge, June 11-14, according to the Monday Q Info Twitter account. Singh is considered a “life member” of the PGA Tour, but there is no eligibility category for that week’s Tour event, the Charles Schwab Challenge, since it is an invitational. (Some invitationals offer entry to life members, but the event at Colonial isn’t one of them.)

Brady Schnell, a player on the Korn Ferry Tour, isn’t too happy about that.

The 35-year-old took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with Singh being in the field, calling him “a true piece of trash” if he accepts money from the event. Schnell said he was more than happy to tell the 57-year-old Singh how he feels in person, and then a day later deleted his tweets.

Here’s what he had to say before deleting:

After being flooded with replies, Schnell explained his reasoning for calling out Singh, saying in a tweet that he was “just trying to protect the money AND valuable points for every player on the tour that needs them to move on to the PGA Tour. There is NO point to him playing.”

The 2018 Wichita Open winner wasn’t alone in criticizing Singh’s decision, and he wasn’t done calling him out, either. In response to Singh just taking “one spot” in the field, Schnell had quite the reaction.

Where Does Vijay Singh Live

Singh isn’t too active on social media, and as of the time of this post “The Big Fijian” had yet to respond. Before Singh had the chance to clap back, Schnell walked back the severity of his comments.
